Our mission has always been to provide helpful (and hopefully, inspiring) information on creating a healthy home environment that also protects our planet's resources. So, in addition to our articles, we also have robust free database of eco-friendly products and services.

Local Food Co-Ops

Many years ago when I live in New York City, I loved that my friends belonged to this food co-op whereby they would pay a set sum of money each week and get a box of the most fresh seasonal fruits and vegatables grown nearby. They never knew what they would get, so it would be a fun surprise every week. It also allowed them to experiment on what they would make with "the goods" each week. I think it created some diversity in their meals and they always knew they weren't eating anything processed and were supporting local farmers.

Recently, I came across a great resource where you can buy locally and they also have a terrific on-line store: LocalHarvest.org. For only $25/week, you pick up a big box of wonderful produce, just picked locally and ready to eat! YUMMMM!

If it doesn't serve your area, do a google search for a "farmers market co-op" for your city. You will be amazed at the fresh local choices that are out there!

I know it's tempting to run out and buy the latest cell phone or personal data assistant, but if yours is broken, perhaps it would be cheaper (and better for the environment) to just have it repaired.

Natural Exfoliation Face Mask

Skin feeling a little out of wack? Need a little boost but don't want to put harsh and toxic chemicals on your face? Just look to the produce department at your local grocery store to mix up a great exfoliation mask for your face. Have fun!

Exfoliation Enzyme Mask

1 teaspoon mashed papaya
1 cube pineapple or 1 1/2 teaspoon pineapple juice
1 teaspoon cornmeal
3/4 teaspoon finely ground sea salt

Blend all ingredients in a mixer, adding sea salt last. Apply to entire face, save for eyes, using a mask or foundation brush for even application. Leave on for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing. The mask gently removes dead cells without irritating, leaving skin velvety smooth. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.
