How To

Organizing Your Home with Way Basics

By Scott Burtness on
Inexpensive storage units, shelves, desks and other home furnishings are often made from particleboard or compressed wood.   While economical and versatile, particleboard isn't very green.  It consists of wood scraps that are mulched, washed in a chemical compound and then pressed into boards. The chemicals that hold the wood particles together can off-gas over the board's lifetime, releasing harmful vapors into your home.  Also, despite wood veneers or paint, particleboard furniture often looks cheap and unattractive.  It cannot be recycled, so the boards usually end up in landfills where those same chemicals contaminate the soil and groundwater

20090218-xi74rs54p9c9n3cmkat66xc9e8.jpgEnter Way Basics - A modular system that uses individual boards called zBoards to custom-build everything from a storage cubby to a bed frame.  Their patented zBoard is made from 100% post consumer paper and is fully recyclable when its use is over.  It's 62% lighter than particleboard but is just as strong.  One shelf in a standard cube can hold 50 lbs.  If a single divider supports that shelf, it can hold 100lbs.  zBoards are 100% waterproof and even the resin used in the adhesive is water-based and environmentally friendly.   They are also really easy to assemble.  The individual boards are made with strategically placed 3-M brand adhesive strips.  Just stick the boards together for a custom modular design that is at once aesthetically pleasing, functional and durable.  No tools or convoluted instructions required.  The boards come in a variety of colors and patterns, so you can customize your cubes to suit your style.  Way Basics also has accessories including floor protectors, collapsible storage cubes, wheels and spinning plates.   These simple accessories lend even more versatility to every piece you design and stick together.

Way Basics modular furniture combines easy, stylish and eco-friendly to make organizing your home fun for you and the planet.  If you want to get a Kraft series cube for FREE, just visit www.waybasics.com, find out where their products are made and email the answer to talktous@waybasics.com.  All correct answers will be randomly chosen to win a FREE Kraft-series cube (contest runs through May 30th.)
